The Basic Bed
Designed by ?/Instructions by Pluffy

Player made beds are almost always formed from the same base: piles of cloth stacks. I am going to show you the basic bed, and if that doesn’t make your boat bob up and down all happy in the water, there will be several variations to play with.

For the basic bed, the materials list is super short!

Notes:

--Whenever I say “a stack of cloth” or even “cloth” I generally mean 2 pieces of cloth stacked together into a single object. You never want to use a single piece of cloth as it will make your bed look gappy and odd.

--The bed will take either 4 or 9 tiles, depending on how large a bed you would like. You want to build the 4 tile bed in the order shown by the white numbers. To make a nine tile bed, you would continue to build in order using the lime numbers. You always want to make sure you build sections of the bed that are North and West first, so you do not block your view of a tile you want to build in.

NOTE: Due to AoS the old bed instructions no loner work after this point! EEK! So I have rewritten them....the materials list is still exactly the same, but I have to build the bed differently, so the cloth colors and the location has changed in the pictures after this point---don't let this confuse you.

1)    Take a pile of 2 colored cloth and set it down in tile one.

3)    Take another pile of 2 colored cloth and target the little slice of the tile that is visible beside the stack of 2 colored cloth you already placed. In the first of the three pictures, the cursor is pointing to the exact spot you want to target once the cloth is in your hand. In the second of the two pictures, you can see how it should look when the cloth is in your hand.

3 continued) In the third picture, you see how it looks if you target the correct spot and the second pile hops up on top of the first pile. You do not want to end up with one stack of four cloth. You want 2 stacks of two, one on top of the other.

4) Targetting the same place, add a third pile of 2 colored cloth to the top of your stack. Lock it down.

5) Place a pile of 2 true black cloth on top, using the same method. Lock it, then place a second pile of 2 true black on top. You always want to top cloth structures with 2 stacks of true black, or else you get those odd lines and seams. If you do not mind the seams, you may use any second color you like, or just add two more stacks of the same color.

6)    Now you have some pillow options. For an east facing bed, use flat folded cloth from the NPC tailor. (He has 4 kinds—tilted, wrinkled, plaid, and the flat folded you need for the bed.) You can also use shipwreck pillows. For a south facing bed, you pretty much have to use shipwreck pillows or try oilcloth. For this bed, I am going with long shipwreck pillows. Place one on top of your stack, targeting the table leg once more to make it hop on top. You can add a smaller pillow on top for a fancier bed. Be sure to lock down!

5-continued)   The shipwreck pillows might look better if they are then lifted one time each with the dec tool--it's up to you, whichever look you prefer.

6)    Repeat steps 2 – 5 in tile 2.

7)    Repeat steps 2 - 4 in tile number 3, You are not going to add pillows here, unless you choose to put a little pillow on for fun. Or if you like, you could put a book or anything you else you think you might leave lying on your bed.

8) Repeat steps 2 -4  in tile number 4. Once again, you won't put pillows in this tile.

And there you have it…….a basic bed. You can continue repeating these steps in tiles 5 through 9  to make a 9 tile bed if you like. But if these aren’t fancy enough for you, there are MANY variations.

--Build the first two tiles of the bed with  an extra stack of colored cloth on the bottom. Top with flat cloth from the NPC tailor and pillows to make a sofa!

--Use the first tile of the sofa alone as an Arm Chair!

--Try putting benches under the cloth stack for a bed you sink into.

--Try putting small crates under the cloth stack for a bed that blocks.

(okay Faun did not name it this, but it sounds more interesting than “a cute bed I stole from Faun”)
